Recently we have been asked what does the flag symbol mean on our equipment, dredges and/or business cards. The short answer: the symbol on the left upper section represents death and the white and green stripes symbolize “the pure air and the green land” in light of human threats to the environment and atmosphere of the earth. A fuller answer is in a 1969 Ron Cobb (a cartoonist) published a US style flag in a version using the letters “e” and “o” in combination for the words environment and organism. Later a magazine associated the Greek letter Theta and the word Thanatos (death) and was responsible for spreading the symbol and making it a flag. Giroux adopted this symbol and changed it, back in 1975 when we acquired our first Mud Cat dredge. In the upper case of the letter Theta the line in the center does not touch the O, and the lower case the line in the center crosses from side to side. Giroux broke the line crossing or if you wish reversed the upper case line which represented somewhat the Mud Cat “eyes” on the dredge product. We also added our company colors yellow around the peripheral.
Oddly a recent advertisement by Wal-Mart (shown during the Cleveland –Boston playoffs) shows the flag as a prop in the background.
Consolidated Giroux Environment Inc. is pleased to announce that it has acquired another 915 Mud Cat dredge capacity 2000 USGPM/minute(7,560 litres), against 175’(53 metres) head and is currently completing fabrication of a stainless steel horizontal auger dredge having a capacity of 3000 USGPM/minute(11,340 litres) against 175’ head(53 metres). This machine will have twice the cutting power of a standard MC915 dredge and will put out 50% more volume per hour.
As a result of our continued building and acquisition of equipment, at peak season in current operations, our equipment utilization was 50%. Consolidated Giroux Environment Inc. is presently considering the development of a leasing division, which would lease and or rent to select customers, Mud Cat dredges along with High Volume dredge pumps to the United States and Western Canada. 4 to 6 dredges are being prepped for this venture.
